British Sign Awards 2020

The original UK Sign Industry Awards return for 2020

Wayfinding Scheme of the Year 2019

Winner

f.r.a. for Metquarter Liverpool

f.r.a. were chosen for their elegant scheme for the major refurbishment of Metquarter in Liverpool. This included external, illuminated signs to the dual entrances, one within a conservation area, and a full signage family.

About the project

f.r.a. were responsible for developing the wayfinding strategy, as well as designing the signage for the major refurbishment of the Metquarter in Liverpool.

The signage family included five totems, sub directories and directional pictograms, manufactured by the isGroup.

f.r.a. were also responsible for guiding the scheme through sensitive planning consideration as one of the main entrances is a listed Victorian frontage.

To keep the project in keeping with the new upscale market Metquarter, f.r.a. selected Corian and shot-blasted stainless steel to reflect the tasteful design.

f.r.a’s approach was creative using luxurious materials such as Corian and Stainless steel but were respectful to the unique heritage environment, whilst understanding the need for improvement to the visitor experience and offer.  They liaised with the local planning authority for signage on Victoria street which needed to be in keeping and sympathetic to the surrounding area but give the development the visual identification the centre needed on the listed façades.
