The annual presentation of the British Sign Awards is a unique event in the sign industry calendar.  It is the only occasion in the year which brings into focus the actual work of sign makers and brings together sign businesses and suppliers to the industry in a convivial, but business-focused atmosphere.

For 2018, the event will return to the Athena Centre, the art deco style facility located in the heart of Leicester’s cultural quarter, which hosted the event in 2017.

The return to the venue was prompted by the positive feedback from both sponsors and guests following last year’s event.   The vast majority rated the Athena as excellent for its food, service and ambience.

“For this year we have made some changes which we think will improve the event still further,” said David Catanach, BSGA Director.  “We will have a ‘late-lunch’ and the event will end at around 6.30pm, meaning that guests will miss the worst of Leicester’s rush-hour traffic.  We are also re-locating the reception to the ground floor which will give everyone a lot more room to mingle and network.”

An ‘interesting’ host

The BSGA has also announced that it has retained six times world snooker champion Steve Davis as the host for the Awards.  During a long career, Steve won an impressive 71 major titles and is still the only snooker player to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award and become a star on ‘Spitting Image”.

He continued to play snooker at world-class level until 2016 and now commentates on the game.  Steve is now a popular quiz show guest and a much-in-demand, and very funny, after dinner speaker.  He also has a new and very different career.  An avid fan of avant garde music he has reinvented himself as  DJ Thundermuscle, playing techno music at festivals such as Glastonbury instead of snooker at the Crucible.

“Steve Davis is an example of the ultimate professional,” said David Catanach.  “We are delighted he will be joining us in Leicester and we’re sure we are in for a very interesting event.”

Tickets for the event are available at £70.00 (+ VAT) each or £600.00 (+VAT) for a table of ten.
