Nick Dowell who runs The Cambridge Sign Company receives the 2015 award from the BSGA’s David Catanach

Sponsored by Pyramid Displays, this award recognises that by far the majority of sign businesses in the UK are SMEs – small and medium sized enterprises.  The award is designed to provide these smaller businesses with an opportunity to gain recognition for their work without having to face competition from the ‘big boys’ of the industry.

Smaller sized businesses – those employing from 1 to 5 people – are invited to submit either a project they are especially proud of or, alternatively, a body of work carried out over the course of a year that demonstrates the quality of the products and service they offer to their customers.

We want to highlight the fantastic creativity and capabilities that small sign makers offer on a local, regional  and, in some cases, national basis.

Small sign businesses are incredibly resourceful, often combining traditional skills with  modern technology and materials to create outstanding signs of every type – from shop fascias, through interior and exterior schemes for retail and entertainment venues, to vehicle liveries.

Last  year the award was won by Nick Dowell who set up the Cambridge Sign Company in 2014 and had achieved a tremendous amount in a relatively short time. He presented a portfolio of work that ranged from graphics for  fleets of vehicles to branding for a chain of franchise shops.

Nick’s unusual and creative use of vehicle graphics also won his company the Commercial Vehicle Graphics Award.

The Small Sign Maker Award celebrates the achievements of smaller businesses that provide outstanding products and services to customers across the country and this year we are looking for a worthy successor to The Cambridge Sign Company.

The Award is open to all sign businesses (you do not have to be a member of the BSGA to enter) employing between 1 and 5 people and entry is free and easy. Simply go to the appropriate page on the awards website – www.britishsignawards.org –  complete the entry form, attach your images and press send.

The judging panel will shortlist three entries for the Award and representatives from each business will be invited to join us at the Gala Awards Ceremony at East Midlands Conference Centre in Nottingham on November 3rd, when the winner will be unveiled.
