Sign of the Year

Blaze Signs

Grafton Centre, Cambridge

The Blaze Signs project at the Grafton Centre in Cambridge included over 30 giant light boxes mounted at high level in the two glass atriums and the central hub at the centre. The lightboxes were created to display lifestyle graphics but what lifts them above the norm is the fact that they are interspersed with highly detailed architectural, illuminated fret cut work – with each unit featuring a unique fret work design.

The light box units were constructed as translucent opal acrylic boxes with internal LED illumination. The face and edges of each box were superimposed with aluminium light fibre laser cut fret work panels in a specialist Analok anodised finish which is specified by architects on high profile projects as it ensures colour and finish consistency.

The judges were particularly impressed by the precision of the fret work panels, which Blaze achieved using their own new Light Fibre Laser Cutting Technology, and by the attention to detail over the entire project.
